“He had a unique ability to find humor in anything.” Kino Lorber has revealed their trailer for a doc film titled Remembering Gene Wilder, a loving tribute to the comic genius and acting legend. The film was the Opening Night Selection of the Boston & San Francisco Jewish Film Festivals, as well as the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival, where it won Best Picture. It’s set for a theatrical release starting in March before it’s available on VOD. KL introduces it: “In this loving, career-spanning documentary, Ron Frank has captured both the public Gene Wilder that we all know and love as well as the more private Gene, a funny, kind, and gentle man beloved by his family, friends, and confidants. We’re thrilled to share this film with audiences worldwide, so they can join us in spending 92 delicious minutes with the magical man behind the characters we love.” It’s a moving tribute to the late comic genius features iconic scenes from his most beloved films plus interviews with Mel Brooks, Carol Kane, and many others. Remembering Gene Wilder shines a light on an essential performer, writer, director, and all-around mensch. One of my all-time faves! He’s just the best.

This loving tribute to Gene Wilder celebrates his life & legacy as the comic genius behind an exceptonal string of film roles, from his first collaboration with Mel Brooks in The Producers, to the enigmatic title role in the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, to his inspired on-screen partnership with Richard Pryor in movies like Silver Streak. It is illustrated by a bevy of touching and hilarious clips and outtakes, never-before-seen home movies, narration from Wilder’s own audiobook memoir, & interviews with a roster of brilliant friends and collaborators – like Mel Brooks, Alan Alda, as well as Carol Kane. Remembering Gene Wilder is directed by doc producer / filmmaker Ron Frank, a Peabody award winner, producer & editor for MLK: The Assassination Tapes, producer & editor for The Lost JFK Tapes, and director of the films The Naked Truth and When Comedy Went to School previously. Executive produced by husband & wife producing team David Knight & Julie Nimoy of Health Point Productions; Julie’s father, Leonard Nimoy, was Wilder’s longtime friend & onetime director. Kino Lorber will debut Remembering Gene Wilder in select US theaters starting on March 15th, 2024. For more details, visit their official site.
