“Long before your elders, there was a time when humans and apes lived side-by-side. Impossible as that may seem…” 20th Century Studios has unveiled a making of featurette for the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes movie directed by Wes Ball. In the video, Ball and his stars Kevin Durand & Freya Allan talk about world building and setting this in a distant future where our planet has become a full jungle. It takes place years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). Many ape clans have emerged in the oasis to which Caesar led his fellow apes, while humans have regressed. One new ape leader prevents the teachings of Caesar in order to enslave other clans while in search of the last traces of a secret technology. Starring Owen Teague as Cornelius, the son of Caesar, with Freya Allan, Peter Macon, Eka Darville, Kevin Durand, Travis Jeffery, Neil Sandilands, Sara Wiseman, William H. Macy, and Dichen Lachman. This is looking better and better the more they show. Absolutely stunning footage, and I really enjoy hearing from Wes Ball talking about what he wanted to do in this new Apes movie. Take a look below.

Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic, sci-fi franchise now set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is directed by the American filmmaker / VFX artist Wes Ball, director of the trilogy of movies The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Maze Runner: The Death Cure previously. The screenplay is by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (writers of the previous Apes trilogy), Josh Friedman, and Patrick Aison. Produced by Joe Hartwick Jr., Jason Reed, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. 20th Century will debut Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in theaters worldwide starting May 10th, 2024 this summer. Who’s ready for this?
