Time for a voyage unlike any other. This lovely animated short is worth 9 minutes of your time to discover. Well Wishes My Love, Your Love is the creation of an animation filmmaker named Gabriel Gabriel Garble. It premiered at the Ann Arbor Film Festival last year, and played at many fests including Sundance earlier this year. Here’s the one-liner: “A boy lends his friend a prosthetic arm for the day.” It’s much more than just that… He straps a GoPro onto the arm and takes it for an adventure out into the world. Our friends at Short of the Week refer to it as a “gentle” short film and I like that. They add: “[the film] is often referred to as psychedelic in reviews, but also as having remarkable fidelity to the real world. Which is it? Can it be both? [The visuals] with the synthetic aural soundscape have an interesting effect of not transforming the natural, but ever slightly estranging one from it.” It’s an entrancing experience, for sure. “Come, be present with the boy, and join him on his journey where you’ll get to discover the immanence of trees… birds…” 🐝
Thanks to Short of the Week for the tip on this. Intro from YouTube: “Newly orphaned and freshly wounded from a loss, a boy lends his companion a prosthetic arm for the day. The companion records the arm being exposed to different textures and materials. What will become of the limb and the video recordings?” Well Wishes My Love, Your Love is animated and written and directed by animation filmmaker / illustrator Gabriel Gabriel Garble – you can see more of his work on his Vimeo page or visit his official website or follow him on IG @gabrielgabrielgarble. All of the work is by Garble, including the editing and music. This initially premiered at the 2022 Ann Arbor Film Festival, and has played at many other film festivals around the world. “This was my labor of love between Dec 2019-Oct 2021 (since before COVID can you imagine!) – every single illustration + animation + commission that I did during this time was in some way a style experiment for this film.” For info, visit Garble’s site or SOTW.
