“I thought I could change him, you know?” 20th Century Studios has unveiled the first official trailer for The Bikeriders, the latest film from acclaimed filmmaker Jeff Nichols, his first feature hitting theaters since Loving in 2016. Glad to see him back. This recently premiered at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival this past weekend, and it’s next playing at the London Film Festival coming up this fall. The film follows the rise of a Midwestern motorcycle club (a fictional one) through the lives of its members. The cast, most of whom did their own riding on an array of period-correct bikes, also includes Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, Boyd Holbrook, and Norman Reedus, along with lead actors Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Tom Hardy. One hell of a cast!! From writer-director Jeff Nichols, 20th Century Studios & New Regency, The Bikeriders is a furious drama following the rise of a fictional 1960s Midwestern motorcycle club through the lives of its members. Described by critics as an “evocative and masculine piece of storytelling.” This looks like some gritty, grimy, fascinating filmmaker that is worthy of our attention. Check out the first look below.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders, from 20th Century’s YouTube:
Inspired by Danny Lyon’s iconic book of photography, The Bikeriders immerses you in the look, feel, and sounds of the bare-knuckled, grease-covered subculture of ’60s motorcycle riders. Kathy, a strong-willed member of the Vandals who’s married to a wild, reckless bikerider named Benny, recounts their evolution over the course of a decade, beginning as a local club of outsiders united by good times, rumbling bikes, and respect for their strong, steady leader Johnny. Over the years, Kathy tries to navigate her husband’s untamed nature and his allegiance to Johnny, with whom she also feels she must compete for Benny’s attention. As life in the Vandals gets more dangerous, and the club threatens to become a more sinister gang, Kathy, Benny and Johnny are forced to make choices about their loyalty to the club and to each other. The Bikeriders is both written and directed by acclaimed American filmmaker Jeff Nichols, director of the films Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter, Mud, Midnight Special, and Loving previously. It’s produced by Sarah Green, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Arnon Milchan. This just premiered at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival. 20th Century debuts The Bikeriders in US & UK theaters starting December 1st, 2023 this fall.
