“You wouldn’t happen to know how to get out of here, would you?” Illumination’s legendary villains is back in an all-new short. Universal / Illumination have revealed a very short trailer for their short film Mooned, which is playing in front of the duck movie Migration this fall. It seems they’re getting a bit nervous about an original kids movie opening, so they need to tie it in with an existing franchise, hence this surprise short film connect to Despicable Me. Mooned features the first Despicable Me movie’s villain Vector, voiced by Jason Segel, stuck on the Moon after Gru sent him there at the end of that first one (spoiler!). This short follows up and answers the questions of – what has he been doing up there? It’s only 8 minutes, 50 seconds long and features the voice of Pierre Coffin as the Minions also stuck there with him. It’s only showing in front of Migration before it’s available for streaming sometime next year. Will he find his way off the Moon?
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Illumination’s short film Mooned, direct from YouTube:
“Oops…kinda forgot he was up there. 😊” Vector is back in Mooned, an all-new short film playing before Migration. See it only in theaters this Christmas. Mooned is an animated short film created by Illumination / Universal Pictures and Illumination Studios Paris. The short will play in front of the Migration release in theaters this fall. Writer and director credits for Mooned have not been announced. The first Despicable Me movie focused on villain-turned-hero Gru (Steve Carrell) as he became a father to three orphaned girls while in a bitter rivalry with his unexpected nemesis and newbie villain Vector (Jason Segel). The movie ended with Gru successfully defeating Vector and stranding him on the moon while settling down with a new life with the former orphans. Since then, little has been known if Vector is still stranded on the moon. Mooned will play in theaters in front of Migration starting on December 22nd, 2023 right at the end of the year.
