“You will need each other. It’s good that there are three of you.” Netflix has unveiled an offiical trailer for an indie film titled His Three Daughters, made by NYC writer & director Azazel Jacobs. This premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last year and earned rave reviews from many critics as one of the best of that festival. It’s now set for a release in limited theaters in September before it’s streaming on Netflix later this fall. A riveting, funny, tense, and touching portrait of family dynamics following three estranged sisters as they converge in a New York apartment to care for their ailing father and try to mend their own broken relationship with one another. The film stars Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen as the three sisters Katie, Rachel, and Christina (respectively). Along with a cast including Jovan Adepo, Jay O. Sanders, Rudy Galvan, Jose Febus, and Jasmine Bracey. This really looks like something special – sharp and honest and careful in its handling of this story about grief and family and love and siblings. It’s worth a watch. This is a charming, moving trailer that will hopefully get your attention – don’t skip this one.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Azazel Jacobs’ His Three Daughters, direct from YouTube:
A bittersweet and often funny story of an elderly patriarch and the three grown daughters who come to be with him in his final days. Katie (Carrie Coon) is a controlling Brooklyn mother dealing with a wayward teenage daughter; free-spirited Christina (Elizabeth Olsen) is a different kind of mom, separated from her offspring for the first time; and Rachel (Natasha Lyonne) is a sports-betting stoner who has never left her father’s apartment — much to the chagrin of her half-sisters, who share a different mother and worldview. His Three Daughters is written and directed by NYC-native indie filmmaker Azazel Jacobs, director of the films Nobody Needs to Know, The GoodTimesKid, Momma’s Man, Terri, The Lovers, as well as French Exit previously, plus many short films and a few episodes of “Mozart in the Jungle” and “Sorry For Your Loss”. Produced by Azazel Jacobs, Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montgomery, Matt Aselton, Marc Marrie, Mal Ward, Lia Buman, Tim Headington, Jack Selby. This initially premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last year as a Special Presentation. Netflix will debut Azazel Jacbos’ His Three Daughters in select US theaters starting September 6th, 2024, then streaming on Netflix to watch on September 20th this fall. Look any good?
