“This thing is after me.” Gravitas has debuted a trailer for an indie psycholigcal thriller called There is a Monster, set for VOD release later this month. It’s the feature debut of a filmmaker named Mike Taylor, who wrote and produced as well. This hasn’t played at any film festivals and is getting dumped in January. Here’s the pitch: a man is haunted and hunted by a monster that only he can see. If this sounds familiar, it’s because this kind of idea has been made plenty of times before, in so many better ways. The monster hovers over him as he sleeps, and it starts to affect him physically. More attacks occur and he blames the monster for his troubles. But his wife and best friend wonder if maybe he’s losing his mind. There is a Monster stars Joey Collins, Ena O’Rourke, Jesse Milliner, Marcellus Shepard, Kelly Schwartz, MerryRose Howley, Bill Thomas, Steve Teller, & Tim Nicholson. Sorry to say but – this looks like complete trash.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Mike Taylor’s There is a Monster, direct from YouTube:
Jack is a successful photographer. One day he thinks he sees something in the shadows of his studio but blames it on the tequila he had the night before. Another day, while getting ready for bed, he’s shocked to see something outside his bedroom window, the “monster”. A frantic search outside with his wife Carol turns up nothing. But later the monster hovers over him as he sleeps, and the very next day his speech isn’t quite right… More attacks occur and he continues to blame the monster for his troubles. His wife and best friend wonder if maybe he’s losing his mind. But the damage being done to his body is very real. There is a Monster is both written and directed by American indie filmmaker Mike Taylor, making his first feature film after years working in commercials previously. It’s also produced by Mike Taylor. Gravitas will debut Taylor’s There is a Monster direct-to-VOD starting on January 30th, 2024 later this month. Interested?
