“What if history were different?!” Amazon’s Prime Video has revealed the official trailer for a series titled My Lady Jane, arriving for streaming in June this summer. It’s yet another of these spins on the damsel in distress trope by turning the ladies into the badass heroines who do the rescuing instead of being the one rescued (also see: Netflix’s Damsel). History’s most tragic heroines but re-imagined with an uplifting twist: the damsel in distress saves herself – and then the kingdom. This is adapted from the book of the same name about “The Lady Janies”. Emily Bader stars as Lady Jane Grey, with an ensemble cast featuring Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Kate O’Flynn, Rob Brydon, Abbie Hern, Isabella Brownson, Will Keen. At the center of this swashbuckling new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane, who is shocked to be crowned queen and then finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)… My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure. This looks like a royally fun time! Nice rockin’ song for this trailer, too. If this sounds like your jam, check it out.
Here’s the first official trailer (+ poster) for Prime Video’s series My Lady Jane, direct from YouTube:
Gird your loins for the tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey (Emily Bader), the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded, back in good ol’ 1553. Actually… f*ck that. We’re retelling history the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself. This is an epic tale of true love and high adventure set in an alt-universe of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and rompy-pompy. Buckle up. My Lady Jane is a series created by & written by newcomer Gemma Burgess. It’s also written by Alyssa Lerner; based on the book “My Lady Jane (The Lady Janies)” by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows. Featuring episodes directed by Jamie Babbit and Stefan Schwartz. Executive produced by Gemma Burgess, Meredith Glynn, Jamie Babbit, Sarah Bradshaw, Laurie MacDonald. Amazon will release the My Lady Jane series streaming on Prime Video starting on June 27th, 2024 this summer.
