“I want rural America to vibrant again, that’s my motivation here.” Yes! Magnolia Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary sequel titled Food, Inc. 2, from filmmakers Robert Kenner & Melissa Robledo. This is a follow-up to the acclaimed, industry-shaking doc Food, Inc. from 2008 – both this film & its sequel are also based on books of the same name. This sequel is premiering at the 2024 CPH:DOX Film Festival in Denmark this month. Their intro: “Turbo chickens, plant-based steaks and a pandemic. A lot has happened since the first Food Inc. film, and it’s time for a fresh in-depth look at the food industry and at possible solutions.” Food Inc 2 centers around innovative farmers, future-thinking food producers, workers’ rights activists and prominent legislators such as U.S Senators Cory Booker and Jon Tester, who are facing these companies head-on to inspire change and build a healthier, more sustainable future. Let’s hope this actually makes a difference! Because it only seems to be getting worse out there, especially with all this bad inflation recently. Seems like the kind of uplifting, inspiring, and encouraging film we really need right now.
Here’s the first official trailer for Robert Kenner & Melissa Robledo’s doc Food, Inc. 2, from YouTube:
“When we made the first Food, Inc., we thought that if viewers got to see how our food is made, we could change the food system one bite at a time. Fifteen years later, it’s clear that ethical shopping isn’t enough; that meaningful change is going to require breaking up the handful of very large and very powerful companies that dominate the food industry.” –Co-directors Robert Kenner & Melissa Robledo
In Food, Inc. 2, the sequel to the 2008 Oscar-nominated and Emmy-award winning documentary, Food, Inc., filmmakers Robert Kenner & Melissa Robledo reunite with investigative authors Michael Pollan (of The Omnivore’s Dilemma) and Eric Schlosser (of Fast Food Nation) to take a fresh look at our efficient yet vulnerable food system. Since the first film, multinational corporations have tightened their stronghold on the U.S. government. The system at large has robbed workers of a fair living wage, and profit focused corporations are proliferating a chemically formulated international health crisis by focusing on growing the market for ultra-processed foods. Food, Inc. 2 is co-directed by the doc filmmakers Robert Kenner (director of the docs Food Inc, Merchants of Doubt, Command and Control, and the doc series “1998-2017 American Experience”, “The Confession Killer”) & Melissa Robledo (a producer on Food Inc, “1998-2017 American Experience”, “The Confession Killer”) directing their first feature together. Produced by Michael Pollan and Eric Schlosser. Adapted from the book “Food, Inc. 2” written by Karl Weber. This is premiering at the 2024 CPH:DOX Film Festival. Magnolia will debut Food, Inc. 2 direct-to-VOD starting April 12th, 2024 this spring, with special theatrical screenings on April 9th. For more info, visit the film’s official site.
