“Why would I ever trust you? You’ve never been there for me, Dad!” Vertical has revealed an official trailer for a film titled Bleeding Love, which is a new title. It first premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival last year under the title You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder, with stops at the Karlovy Vary and Göteborg Film Fests. Now set for a VOD release in February. It’s yet another film about addiction and how hard it is to help someone overcome addiction. A father takes his estranged daughter on a road trip in an effort to get her out of trouble. Along the way they meet all types of strangers, as their strained relationship is put to the test. The film stars real-life father and daughter duo Ewan McGregor and Clara McGregor, along with Kim Zimmer, Devyn McDowell, Sasha Alexander, with Jake Weary and Vera Bulder. The name change is probably because this didn’t get great reviews at festivals, and because that original title is a bit clunky. This new title isn’t much better, either… As much as I adore Ewan McGregor, I’m not a fan of this film – I caught it last year and it’s barely serviceable, rather forgettable unfortunately. There’s not much to see here.
Here’s the first official trailer for Emma Westenberg’s Bleeding Love, direct from Vertical’s YouTube:
Starring real-life father and daughter Ewan & Clara McGregor, Bleeding Love is a gritty, emotional tale about healing familial wounds through re-connection. After a drastic incident, a young woman (Clara) embarks on an impromptu road trip with her estranged father (Ewan). En-route to their destination of Santa Fe, New Mexico, the two are forced to confront the issues of their past that have led to their frail relationship, while encountering an eccentric array of characters along the way, in order to bring them closer together again. Bleeding Love, formerly known as You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder, is directed by indie filmmaker Emma Westenberg, director of the film Stranger’s Arms previously, plus many other music videos and shorts. The screenplay is written by Ruby Caster, from a story by Ruby Caster, Clara McGregor, Vera Bulder. It’s produced by Mark Amin, Christine Vachon, Clara McGregor, Vera Bulder, Greg Lauritano, Mason Plotts, Cami Winikoff. This initially premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival last year. Vertical will release Westenberg’s Bleeding Love in select US theaters + on VOD on February 16th, 2024 this winter.
